STAMFORD — Six years after the SoTo neighborhood received official recognition from the city, the mastermind behind the retail district says it’s time for a makeover.
Regina Kirshbaum conceived SoTo, a moniker for the “South of Town” commercial district between Canal Street and Magee Avenue, nearly two decades ago. The small business owner has been dedicated to breathing life into the area ever since, pleading with the city to update the streets, sidewalks and lighting.
“We know that when you look good, you feel good,” Kirshbaum said. “We need our infrastructure here in SoTo to be improved so that the neighborhood can live up to its full potential.”
Thomas Madden, Stamford’s director of economic development, agrees SoTo could benefit from infrastructure improvements, but said other large projects have tied up the city budget.
“We’re really trying to make do with what we have, spreading it to areas that need new infrastructure the most right now,” Madden said. Click here to read more.
